Statement
I paint contemporary subjects using a combination of modern and traditional oil painting techniques. I derive my subject matter from the people, places, things and ideas that are around and surround me as an American artist living in the 21st Century.
I explore the subjects of individuality, taboo, vice, sexuality, beauty, power, impermanence, and violence in my work. I use the figure and objects as vehicles to translate these concepts. I strive to create images that portray my perception of culture and society in the 21st Century.
As a painter, I am interested in describing form through the use of color, draftsmanship, lighting and paint application.
I am fortunate enough to be working in the Berkshires where there are many amenities at my fingertips.
*****
I have embraced the craft of oil painting and enjoy the technical qualities of the materials. I am giving myself a new, highly intensive, self-guided education of Art History, painting history, color science/theory, technology, materials and techniques. It is the education necessary to keep moving forward. It is amazing how many gems have been left along the way to discover. It is also a great way to see and understand the world.
the Subject is Subject.
